COMPARISON : COOLPAD NOTE 5 VS XIAOMI REDMI NOTE 3

I have been searching for a new mobile for some time and after a lot of search I zeroed in on  Coolpad Note 5. I have been using COOLPAD NOTE 5 for around 1 months, now regularly comparing it with REDMI NOTE 3(RS.12000). Earlier, I thought that no phone in the market can beat REDMI NOTE 3 but I was TOTALLY WRONG. I mean, look at COOLPAD NOTE 5 DESIGN, SPECS, FEATURES and what not it gives you at a miraculous price of Rs.10999(1k less than the closest rival RedMi Note 3) !

I was using RedMi Note 3 as my primary device from last 6 months or so and WAS TOTALLY SATISFIED with it in every way. Then, I managed to get this COOLPAD NOTE 5 and it COMPLETELY CHANGED MY THINKING about getting the features that Redmi Note 3 offers + Extra Features leaving me with Rs.1000.

Although, I was a bit loose and concerned about using a Coolpad device as I had not heard or saw much gadgets of this brand earlier. But, I must tell you that my DECISION to purchase this smartphone was TOTALLY CORRECT.

To be honest, I didn't wonder that a mobile under Rs.11000 can give me all the features that I see in a product of Rs.18000 EXCEPT GIVING me the branding of a "Not So Famous" brand. I GUARANTEE YOU that COOLPAD NOTE 5 is WAY AHEAD THAN ITS COMPETITORS TODAY BEATING REDMI NOTE 3 by a long-long margin.

So, If you are thinking of BUYING this mobile or have SHORTLISTED it, then you must read my EXPERIENCE about COOLPAD NOTE 5 below and it would be GREAT(Really) if you tell us in the comment section about your experience with Coolpad note 5.
Also KUDOS from me to you, THE READER, as YOU are a SMART BUYER who is first THOROUGHLY RESEARCHING about the product and THEN THINKING whether to PURCHASE it or not. CHEERS!

A) FEATURES WHICH MATTERS AND NOT JUST SPECS SHEET ::

(i) CAMERA

This mobile has a 8 Mega Pixel front facing camera WITH LED FLASH. The front facing camera is ABOVE AVERAGE or say, BETTER than what you normally get in a mobile phone of THIS PRICE SEGMENT. The PRIMARY CAMERA is a 13 Mega Pixel shutter. In terms of Camera, It DOES GETS BEATED from REDMI NOTE 3's camera at FOCUSING and LOW LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY. But the color production in the images clicked with Coolpad is way better than Redmi.

Otherwise, the camera is similar to that of Redmi's and is GREAT IN TERMS OF QUALITY AND RICHNESS/SHARPNESS OF THE IMAGE. Camera, both primary and secondary will not disappoint you at all IF YOU see it as a Rs.11000 phone and not as Google Pixel!

CAMERA RATING ::
PRIMARY CAMERA : 9.5/10
SECONDARY CAMERA: 8.5/10
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(ii) SCREEN-

This device comes with a 5.5 inch FULL HD IPS display with 401 pixels per inch which is MORE THAN SUFFICIENT for GAMING AND DAILY USAGE and the screen DOES NOT feel PIXELATED or LESS CRISPY at all.

The SCREEN BRIGHTNESS is ACCEPTABLE BUT NOT GREAT if you look at the screen in DIRECT SUNLIGHT. It comes with a SCRATCH RESISTANT 2.5 D GLASS PROTECTION and not Gorilla Glass protection. The QUALITY, CONTRAST, SHARPNESS and BLACK LEVELS of screen is slightly better than REDMI NOTE 3 in my opinion but it SLIGHTLY LACKS IN BRIGHTNESS.
The SCREEN GUARD provided in box is below average and you DEFINITELY have to buy a tampered glass to protect it from getting broke.

SCREEN RATING :: 9/10

(iii) DESIGNING OF SOFTWARE AND PHONE-

The phone looks 'ROYALE' and is ONE OF THE BEST METALLIC UNIBODY CRAFTING I HAVE SEEN in a 11000 INR smartphone. The FEEL that you get when you HOLD THIS PHONE or the way it APPEALS to you when it sits at your desk is simply MESMERIZING.

I do not feel ANYONE of ANY AGE category will dislike the design of this phone. If possible, do not put BACK COVER as it will highly decrease the CLASSIC ROYAL LOOK of the phone.

Overall, the mobile weighs 170g and is comparatively SLIM if you do not dress it with a bulky back cover. The UI is not one of the best UI's and lacks that small-small features like you see in MIUI. But as it is an Android compatible mobile phone, you can CUSTOMIZE THE UI THE WAY YOU WANT TO and even replace the original UI completely. Any day.

DESIGN RATING ::
APPEARANCE : 9/10
SOFTWARE : 7.5/10
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(iv) BATTERY, SPEAKERS, VIRTUAL REALITY AND PERFORMANCE-

This headset comes with a 4010 mAH BATTERY which can easily last 1 DAY if you are a HEAVY USER and Net Surfer. For NORMAL users like me, it lasts for an average of 2 DAYS EASILY with 10% Battery STILL LEFT! And Yes, it does support QUICK CHARGING. You have to BUY A QUICK CHARGER SEPARATELY.

The SPEAKERS are NOT that great in bass but are CLEAR and LOUD. Even in a price segment of Rs.20000, the quality of speakers in mobile phones is not that great and so is the case with this piece also. It has 3.5 mm JACK and EARPHONES ARE INCLUDED IN THE BOX TOO which are not GREAT but GOOD.

PERFORMANCE WISE, the phone RARELY HANGED OR LAGGED in my DAILY USAGE and BUT IN HARDCORE MULTI TASKING and switching between HEAVY GAMES and APPS, A SLIGHT LAG CAN BE NOTICED! I assure you that in day to day normal usage, the hardware is enough to handle all the pressure.

It comes with a whooping 4 GB of RAM which is way more than enough and you get it in just Rs.11000! Redmi Note 3 comes with 3 GB RAM. It comes with 32 GB Memory which CAN BE EXPANDED to 64 GB via micro SD card(Hybrid SIM Slot).

It is a dual sim phone(4G-4G) with VoLTE Support. It DOES NOT HAVE A IR Blaster which works as a remote controller for many electronic devices. It has FINGER PRINT UNLOCKING which is FAST.

If you are MUCH INTO VIRTUAL REALITY, LEAVE THIS PHONE AS IT DOES NOT COME WITH GYROSCOPE SENSOR AND MOST OF THE APPS REQUIRE IT. Although, you can still use VR Technology but the experience will NOT BE GOOD.

BATTERY RATING :: 10/10
SPEAKER RATING :: 7.5/10
PERFORMANCE RATING :: 8.5/10
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(v) UNIQUENESS-

The PRICE at which it gives you all the above mentioned features is a UNIQUENESS IN ITSELF! In my opinion, no other manufacturer can give you this combination of BRILLIANT HARDWARE, DESIGN, BUILT QUALITY AND CAMERA in just Rs.10999.

UNIQUENESS RATING :: 9/10
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

B) DEAL MAKER ::

a) 8MP Secondary Camera WITH LED FLASH
b) 5.5 inch IPS CAPACITIVE FULL HD Screen
c) 4010 mAH Battery
d) 4 GB of RAM
e) Free Protective Film
f) Qualcomm Quick Charging 2.0 Support
g) Included Earphones in the box which many companies skip nowadays.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

C) DEAL BREAKER:

a) GYROSCOPE SENSOR is not available which completely ruins VR experience and also the orientation and other uses of a gyroscope sensor. It will not affect you if you are not greatly into Virtual Reality!

Another point which is secondary and is definitely not a deal breaker is that IT DOES NOT SUPPORT NFC which I VERY RARELY USE. So, it does is a negative point but its effect is not that much significant.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

D) CONCLUSION ::

In MY OPINION, Coolpad Note 5 is till date, the best smartphone you can buy under Rs.11000 but with one condition though that you are in terms with the fact that it does not support have a gyroscope sensor. Other than that, their is no smartphone out there today with this LEVEL of HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE at this PRICE POINT.

I couldn't find anything wrong or something like that in the device which may become a problem in the future except for the fact that nowadays, all the manufactures's AFTER SALES SERVICE, save Samsung, Apple, One-Plus,etc., takes a time of about 15-20 days to RESOLVE the PROBLEM, if any.

FINAL RATING :: 9.5/10

MIND-BLOWING FACTS RELATED TO TECHNOLOGY THAT MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW

Technology is all about relentless seek of knowledge and to apply the knowledge in betterment of society. So every advancement we see, went through million trials and countless hours of experiment.  And some time they are more expensive than the budget of a block buster Hollywood movies. So today we will going to see some mind-blowing facts related to technology that most people don’t know.

1.Microsoft put a cloud data centre under water

Quite interesting, here's what Microsoft says:
"50% of us live near the coast. Why doesn't our data?"

Water and electronics usually don't mix. But Microsoft thinks dumping computers in the ocean might be the wave of future. Where companies like Facebook and Google prefer to move their data centre to colder countries to reduce their air conditioning bill, Microsoft has come up with an even better home for data centres while cutting high energy costs for cooling them: Under the Sea.

2. Biotechnology

We now have the ability to wear bionic hands that are controlled by our brains. Through neuroscience, people without hands or those who have no ability to move their hands can now control them with their brain.

Pretty insane when you think about it, but also very beneficial to those who will use this technology to gain the ability to use their hands, it’s a boon for them.

3.Transparent Wood

Last year researchers at the University of Maryland have developed transparent wood. Ya you have heard right, Sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide are used to remove the organic substance that gives wood its distinctive coloring (lignin), leaving the wood white. They then add an epoxy to the wood to allow light to pass through it. The resulting material is twice as strong as Plexiglass. Pretty amazing stuff right.

4.LINKA is the World's first auto-unlocking smart bike lock

Designed with the innovative auto-unlocking feature recognizing when you approach for convenience. The Noose chain allows you to connect directly to our smart lock without the need of any keys. Quite interesting and helpful invention for the guys who lost their keys frequently.

Features:-

Auto Unlocking: -
We all know how frustrating it can be lock and unlock your bike when you need to just stop in for a quick second. Many of us even leave our bikes completely unlocked! With LINKA's revolutionary Auto-Unlock feature, you no longer have to pull out your keys or a bulky lock from your bag. As you approach your bike, LINKA will recognize you and unlock automatically. Not only is this perfect for when you got your hands full, it's also convenient to you up and going quicker than ever.

5. Philips Hue Light Bulbs

Control the mood lighting anywhere in your house with these unique bulbs that can be controlled over your Wi-Fi network from your smartphone. Dim, switch off, and cycle through different color palettes within seconds and create your dream atmosphere.

6. Li-Fi (Light Fidelity)

Features of Li-Fi:-
It's around 100X times faster than Wi-Fi.
It's considered to be environment friendly (green tech).
Uses Visible light spectrum for data transmission.
Blazing speed of 224 Gb/s
Even though the discovery started decade ago, but the commercial use started in 2015.
Seems like Wi-Fi finally got a competitor.

7. People have actually begun putting QR codes on their loved one's grave stones.
Scanning them will lead you to online tributes to the dead where you can read their obituaries.

Technology has gone too far!

8. Google’s first ever Tweet on Twitter was in February 2009, and reads ”I’m 01100110 01100101 01100101 01101100 01101001 01101110 01100111 00100000 01101100 01110101 01100011 01101011 01111001 00001010.” Translating from binary into English, this tweet says “I’m feeling lucky.”

9. WhatsApp is worth more than NASA’s entire Annual budget of around 17 billion dollars.

10. In the world of smartphones you will definitely going to experience following cool stuffs in upcoming years !

  • Super processors: Samsung already said that they’ll be launching phones having a freaking 6 GB of RAM. WOW! That's like a lot.

  • Virtual 3D movies/media: well it is already a reality now but we will be able to see amazing advancements in this field in upcoming years . Surely the most game changing thing for all smartphones.

  • Type C usb: this is a better port which will replace the current charging port of all smartphones . Galaxy S7 will be the one having one and slowly all phones will get replaced with such port .

  • Better bluetooth/ display/ camera : oh yes these things will get more advanced as one will be able to transfer data from one's phone to another at blazing speeds , will have more pixel density and clarity in display and yeah much more powerful cameras respectively .

  • Eye scanners / better security systems:  we can witness much more better security systems apart from fingerprint scanners like eye scanners etc. which are definitely one to watch out for.

  • Connectivity with many day to day devices via your smartphones: locking and unlocking of cars, controlling many electrical appliances etc. will not going to be a dream for us anymore and will be going to be very useful in future.

11. TRACTOR BEAMS!!!  :
A researcher holds a device that is composed of 64 mini speakers that generate 40 kHz acoustic field that traps and levitates a 3 mm polystyrene bead. They can use the acoustic field to control objects up to 4 mm.  Sound is a mechanical wave that can exert significant force.  Just remember the last time you were at a live concert and you could feel your chest vibrate with the music.

12. The digital camera was invented by Kodak.

That's right, the company that was the King of Film invented the digital camera, then hoped it would never see the light of day as a product.
Perhaps because of their short-sightedness, Kodak failed to adapt to changing technology and became but a mere shell of its former self.

13. Doug Engelbart had made the first computer mouse in 1964, and it was made out of hard wooden shell and two clunky metal wheels.

I might have skipped many points but hey no one knew that we will be using such amazing and advanced smartphones!

So predicting each and every stuff will be quite a big task and yes one should give rooms to lil bit of surprises also ;) and if you know some more technologies then tell us in the comment section and follow our blog for many more awesome article as the name suggest about everything.

Coolpad Note 5 full review: Amazing Phone. Don't think, Just Go for it.

Coolpad Note 5 review

I have been using Note 5 for the last one month and I will give my unbiased review here.
The phone is exclusively available at Amazon.in. I ordered one for myself and it delivered in like 3 days but as soon as I got the mobile it a bit let down. The packing was I would say pathetic if we talk from the packaging of things like mobile phone (which are delicate) which might get damaged in transit. The phone was in original cardboard box and amazon people just covered it with a packing polythene bag, that’s it. Any ways there wasn’t any damage to the mobile which I got.
Before giving a detailed review of Coolpad Note 5, here are some key specs:-

  • OS-Android
  • RAM-4GB
  • Internal Memory- 32 GB
  • Screen Size- 5.5 inch
  • Battery-4010 mah

UNBOXING

The box was properly sealed and after opening the box it contain the handset, 2 amp adapter, a microUSB cable , earphone(add on to recently popular mobile phones) ,screen guard ,Removable Battery 4010 mAh , Warranty card and user manual.

Which processor is used, basic hardware specs and body design ?

The design is sleek with aluminum golden body, adds a premium feel to anyways mid-range phone. The phone is unibody which weighs around 173.4 g  . It has non removable 4010 mah battery. It runs on Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617 and comes with Android OS, v6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box. It has an octa core (4x1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.0 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU and Adreno 405 GPU.It has powerful 4 GB RAM and it is the only mobile in this price range to feature 4GB RAM. It has 32 GB internal storage which is expandable up to 64 GB. The front has microphone, front camera with front flash(an additional feature),proximity sensor, ambident light, black touch screen(obviously) and three capacitive key(not backlight).The rear has 13 MP camera , LED flash, finger print sesor, speaker grill, two plastic stripes with coolpad markings. It has Power button and electable SIM tray on the right edge and since it has an hybrid sim slot user can either use 2 sims at a time or a sim and memory card whereas volume rocker on the left edge.

DISPLAY(HOW IS THE DISPLAY AND OTHER FEATURES?)

The Coolpad Note 5 sports a 5.5" Full HD IPS with 401 ppi which gives pretty bright, contrasting screen colors. It has a scratch resistant 2.5 D curved glass. The viewing angles are very good. The phone needs to be put on maximum brightness with sunlight .Overall screen quality is good owing to FHD screen.

BATTERY(WHAT IS THE BATTERY BACKUP ? )

The Coolpad Note 5 has a massive 4010mAh battery. The battery is non-removable giving it a bit of a sleek look. The battery backup is very good owing to the juice provided. It will easily back you up for almost 2 days if you are a light user and around 20-24 hours for a moderate to power user. It comes with a 2 amp charger which helps it to charge very quickly.

CONNECTIVITY (IS IT A VOLte PHONE ? )

The Coolpad Note 5 is compatible with 4G LTE and VOLte. Since it comes with a dual 4G support, you can choose LTE on either of the sim at a time.
A microUSB cable can be used to transfer data and for the purpose of charging. The USB port can also be used for Micro USB, OTG cables and keyboards.

USER INTERFACE (HOW IS THE UI AND OVERALL EXPERIENCE ?)

It runs on CoolUI 8.0 which is basically on the lines of Android v6.0 Marshmallow. It doesn’t have any app drawer like its predecessors and xiaomi and other similar phones. It has a Power saver mode where it closes almost all the background apps and cellular data and works on the basic necessities . It has many pre-installed apps.
The only change I noticed than other phones is that the shortcut to different features is drawn from the bottom of the screen (which very rarely doesn’t come handy).Rest of the features like lock screen and overall interface is similar to COOLPAD NOTE 3. The phone can be unlocked using fingerprint anytim , alternatively you can double tab on the screen to wake the screen. You can change the wallpaper and themes of your choice.

FINGER PRINT SENSOR (IS THE FINGER PRINT SENSOR RESPONSIVE ENOUGH ? )

The fingerprint sensor just works perfectly smooth. You can save up to 5 different fingers. Finger print sensor can be used for many a task like locking and unlocking, taking selfies, picking calls etc.

CALLS (HOW IS THE CALL QUALITY ? )

The dialer app is very clean and as it is a VoLTE inbuilt phone the audio and video call feature over VoLTE is already available in it. The phonebook is combined with the dialer app itself.
The call quality is pretty rich and the calls can be recorded if you like to be. There are other features as well if you dig deeper in it.

CAMERA

It has a 13 MP rear facing camera with 5P lens technology and bright f/2.2 aperture, the Coolpad Note 5 can shoot stunning images and videos with ease. You can record high quality videos in full HD 1080p resolution and capture rich memories with loved ones. The Coolpad Note 5 features a front-facing 8 megapixel camera with LED flash for shooting solo and group selfies in any light conditions with equal ease. Share these high quality pictures with friends or on social media and relive those fun memories.

FINAL VERDICT

So as its name suggest it is a kind of a beast with unbeatable RAM but Coolpad has certainly compromised on the chipset front and provided with relatively cheaper Snapdragon 617 than Snapdragon 650. Latest android is a plus point .Rear camera is more than decent and color production in clicked pictures in more than good. Front flash is more than welcome for the selfie lovers and clicks good pictures. Gaming experience was pretty cool as well but continuous play for more than 35-40 minutes heats up the mobile fairly enough. Plus the headphones included are a plus point but the screen guard included could have been of a better quality(not complaining though).Redmi NOTE 3 is a serious competitor for Coolpad Note 5,but owing to the price point, better RAM and headphones(:P) go for COOLPAD NOTE 5. The Coolpad Note 5 looks very promising and a mouth watering prospect at just under 11 K.

P.S. – The only let downs I found are cheap chipset and absence of gyroscope (but it comes mostly handy if you are Virtual Reality Fan).
