BHIM app review: Just remember your aadhar number and thumb impression, you have done it.

After the bold move by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi to demonetize the 500 and 1000 rupee currency note, major part of the citizens of India were initially supportive of the move, but gradually the mood shifted to a bit of annoyance as they were facing troubles as they have to stand in queues for hours and even after that they were not sure if they will be able to get money from their bank account.
The problem persisted even after almost 2 months and to solve the problem a bit the government has officially launched an app, “BHIM”. Although the government was promoting the ‘Cashless” transaction from the beginning and had provided with some perks for those who chose to do transactions online.
BHIM-BHarat Interface for Money is which allows you to make quick and easy transaction with the help of Unified Payment Interface (UPI). The app is developed by National Payments Corporations of India (NPCI).The name of the app is after Baba Sahib Bhim Rao Ambedkar. The app is available only on Android as of now and hopefully and iOS app will be available soon.

Yesterday, while I was downloading BHIM app an unusual thing happened, as I entered Bhim in search box in Play Store the results showed app related to Chota Bheem :P. Instead of just Bhim , try “ bhim upi”. (Although there won’t be much of a problem now as the app has reached the top in google play chart).

How to download BHIMP app?

Download the BHIM app by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Google Play to start using the free Android app.
How to download BHIM app for iPhone?
BHIM app is presently now available on Android and will come to iPhone 'soon'.

Some key points:-

The app size is light as it is around 2 mb. The size therefore, maximizes the reach to lower end mobile phone users as well.
After installing the app, I found the interface very simple and clean. The UI is kept simple so that the app remains convenient to most people and remains hassle free.
For the registration purpose, the user just need to enter the mobile number which is linked to the account number and the sim card should be in the mobile itself as it sends a message for verification purpose.
After the mobile registration, the user need to register a 4-digit passcode for security purpose. Enter any 4-digit passcode and confirm it.
In next step you can choose which bank to link with the app and automatically shows the account number as the mobile number given at the time of register is linked with the account number.
In next screen it shows transfer money in which you can Send, Request and ‘Scan & Pay’.
To send Money to someone just tap on send and it will take you to send money screen where you just have to enter the mobile number/payment address.
After entering the mobile number/payment address the app will verify and after the verification is done, just enter the amount to be sent and tap “send”. The app will ask for the passcode which you entered at the time of registration and ta da! it’s done !. It’s just that simple.

My Review:-

I found Bhim app pretty convenient than other e-wallet apps as there isn’t any in between e-wallet where you have to load up the money first than it could be used. It’s just bank account to bank account facility , so no in between hassles.

Other features of bhim app

Check Balance: You can check your bank balance and transactions details on the go.
Custom Payment Address: You can create a custom payment address in addition to your phone number.
QR Code: You can scan a QR code for faster entry of payment addresses. Merchants can easily print their QR Code for display.
Transaction Limits: Maximum of Rs. 10,000 per transaction and Rs. 20,000 within 24 hours.

Language supported: Hindi and English. More languages coming soon!
Charges: There are no transaction charges through BHIM, but your bank may levy a nominal charge as UPI or IMPS transfer fee, which has not been announced so far.

Some of the improvements that can be done-

Can't add multiple bank account.
User won’t be able to set UPI Pin if registered mobile number’s sim is in secondary slot.
Sub-Branches of Banks such as State Bank of Patiala,Hyderabad not included in the Banks’s list.
App is poorly tested, giving different errors(Set-up and verification) to different users.
Although UPI allows limits of up to 1 lakh a day which is available in other UPI apps, in BHIM app you can only send 10,000 per transaction with maximum of 20,000 per day.
Security is not really up to the mark and is expected to be improved in later versions.
